The latest addition to the Radford menagerie is Molly the mule; I’ll be writing about her in a future column. In an effort to learn more about mules, I visited the Al Kaly Shrine Mule Town in Colorado Springs this morning. The mules were hungry; I arrived at breakfast time and got to watch Debbie Dupont, the mule caretaker, feed them their hay.
Stubborn as a mule? That saying didn’t come from nowhere, Dupont says. Mules can be stubborn, but that trait apparently is a reflection of a mule’s intelligence. They’re smart enough that they won’t let an owner work them to death or put them in danger.
Here’s one mule that was happy to say hi today.
