Thirty chili sling chefs showed off their ways with the stew at the Carne Diem Chili Cookoff today at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. The carne diem is a play on carpe diem (sieze the day).
There were nine professional chefs and a whopping 22 ameteur chefs putting a spicy twist on their chili recipes. Some of them included:
The pro chefs didn’t hold back with the spicy chili pods while the home cooks didn’t seem to remember to chop up any pepers at all. Home cooks, on the other hand, came up with some pretty creative takes on chili.
Think of a vegan number based on quinoa and others that more resembled chowder rather than chili. For sure they were thinking outside the the traditional chili bowl.
It was all good and for a good cause benefiting the Venetucci Farm “Raise the Barn” Campaign and the Pioneers Museum. Stay tuned to hear who impressed the celebrity judges and the people who paid $10 each to taste three cups of chili for the honor of taking home the Carne cup.
