Work below the Monument Lake Dam will be done to help water flows along Monument Creek.

Work will begin in the next week or two to complete maintenance along Monument Creek below the Monument Lake Dam.

According to Tom Kassawara, the town of Monument’s Director of Development Services, the project is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Munson Excavating of northern El Paso County will do the job after winning the bid. A Request for Proposal was advertised by the city in January. The cost of the project will be $12, 402, Kassawara said in an email.

According to the RFP, about 150 cubic yards of sediment which has accumulated below the dam spillway and along the creek will be removed, the creek bottom will be reshaped and vegetation restoration will be performed along the bank. The section of the Monument Creek has accumulated about 12 inches of sediment which then began to become covered with vegetation, resulting in the deposition of even more sediment.

Munson Excavating will divert the stream flow temporarily while the work is done.
