The big ticket item on Tuesday’s Manitou Springs city council agenda was retail marijuana sales.
While the council spent more than an hour on that hot-button topic, and eventually passed the first reading of an amendment to the city code with a 6-1 vote, the city also had some council housekeeping to handle at the meeting.
Outgoing councilmen Matt Carpenter and Michael Gerbig were honored with resolutions of appreciation and each received a standing ovation from those in attendance. Nichole Nicoletta (Ward 3) and Kevin “Sarge” MacDonald (Ward 1) were sworn in to fill Carpenter’s and Gerbig’s vacancies.
And with the exit of Mayor Pro Tem Carpenter, the new council voted Coreen Toll (Ward 2) as the new Mayor Pro Tem. Toll was given the nod by a 5-2 vote after MacDonald made the motion to consider her for the position.
Mayor Marc Snyder had suggested councilman Randy Hodges just moments before Toll’s appointment, but the council voted against making him Mayor Pro Tem.
