  • Sky Sox plan kids fishing pole giveaway

    Sox the FoxThe Colorado Springs Sky Sox will give a free fishing pole to the first 500 children through the gate for its 1:35 p.m. Sunday, May 4 home game against the Memphis Firebirds at Security Service Field.

    The Triple-A baseball club, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and Great Outdoors Colorado will give away the equipment. About 50 children will be selected to go out onto the field and practice reeling in their first catch.

    This is the 12th year of the fishing pole event with 6,000 given away so far.  Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the team web site.

  • Sky Sox schedules singer auditions

    t551_main_logoThe Colorado Springs Sky Sox, in conjunction with The Colorado Springs Conservatory, will host vocalist auditions for the 2014 season on Saturday, March 8 from noon to 4 p.m. at the main stage in Chapel Hills Mall.

    Soloists, duets, trios and quartets are invited to audition for The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America.

    Interested parties who would like to reserve an audition time between noon and 2 p.m. should contact Brian Paneral in the Sky Sox promotions department at 719.597.1449 or bpaneral@skysox.com.

    Open auditions will be on a first-come, first-serve basis from 2-4 p.m. All vocal performances must be a cappella and only traditional renditions of songs will be considered. Singers may sing either The Star Spangled Banner or God Bless America and will be considered for either song.

    The top performances will be determined by a judging panel consisting of Sky Sox staff, Colorado Springs Conservatory curriculum coordinator and opera singer Amber Marek and local DJs.

    Top performers will sing live at Security Service Field during the 2014 Friday, April 11 through Wednesday, Aug. 27. The best performer will sing the National Anthem on Opening Day and an additional performer will sing God Bless America on July 3.

  • Sky Sox announce 2014 game promotions

    Sox the FoxThe Colorado Springs Sky Sox announced their 2014 promotional schedule which begins  with the home opener  Friday, April 11 against the Round Rock Express.

    Highlighting the 2014 promotional calendar are a new-high of 18 fireworks shows including 13 Friday night displays and special events including Thursday, July 3 and select Saturdays throughout the year. Saturday fireworks shows will include themes with live character appearances and performances including Star Wars on June 28, Star Trek on July 26, and Batman on August 23 for Sky Fest, the biggest fireworks show of the year.

    Fans may want to mark major events on their calendar including opening weekend April 11-13, Used Car Night on Saturday, July 12, and Todd Helton Mini-Statue giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 9.  Other popular mainstays return including   six Kids Eat Free Mondays, eight $2 Tuesdays, nine $3 Craft Brew Thursdays and 11 50¢ hot dog Sundays.

    Single-game tickets go on sale online on Monday, March 17. Go to the Sky Sox web site for more information and buy tickets.

  • Special showing of “The Sandlot” is Friday

    sandlot1The Sky Sox are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of the baseball movie “The Sandlot” with a guest appearance by director/narrator David Mickey Evans and a screening at Security Service Field at 7:45 p.m. Friday.
