  • Sky Sox plan kids fishing pole giveaway

    Sox the FoxThe Colorado Springs Sky Sox will give a free fishing pole to the first 500 children through the gate for its 1:35 p.m. Sunday, May 4 home game against the Memphis Firebirds at Security Service Field.

    The Triple-A baseball club, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and Great Outdoors Colorado will give away the equipment. About 50 children will be selected to go out onto the field and practice reeling in their first catch.

    This is the 12th year of the fishing pole event with 6,000 given away so far.  Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the team web site.

    FriedrichactionThe Sky Sox open their season at New Orleans at 6 p.m. MT Thursday with LHP Christian Friedrich as the Opening Day starter for a franchise-record 3rd straight year.  RHP Brian Flynn will get the starting nod for the Zephyrs.

  • ROOT releases Rockies TV schedule

    rockies logoROOT Sports announced its 2014 Colorado Rockies telecast schedule. The network will air 150 Rockies regular season and six spring training games. Coverage begins with a Cactus League matchup between the Rockies and Cubs from Scottsdale, Ariz., on March 19. 

    Regular-season coverage begins with the season opener on Monday, March 31, when the Rockies travel to Miami to face the Marlins at 5 p.m. MT. A special one-hour Pregame Show will begin at 4 p.m. MT. The team will open at Coors Field on Friday, April 4, with the Pregame Show starting at 1 p.m. MT.

  • Sky Sox announce 2014 schedule

    t551_main_logoThe Colorado Springs Sky Sox released their 2014 regular season schedule and game times after a record-setting 2013 season with 5,181 fans per game. Season ticket packages are on sale now and start at $60.

    The 2014 season will feature 18 fantastic fireworks shows, including the Independence Day show on July 3d and the fifth annual Skyfest Spectacular on Saturday, Aug. 23. Also returning for 2014 will be 50¢ hot dogs on 11 Sundays, nine Kids Eat Free Mondays, eight $2.00 Tuesdays, and 10 $3 Microbrew Thursdays.

    The Sky Sox’ home season kicks off with an eight-game home stand with the Round Rock Express (Affiliate of the Texas Rangers) and the Oklahoma City RedHawks (Houston Astros). The 2014 home opener will be at 6:35 p.m. on Friday, April 11 against the Express.

  • Colorado Rockies announce 2014 schedule

    rockies logoThe Colorado Rockies announced their full 162-game schedule for the 2014 Major League Baseball season.

    The Rockies 2014 campaign begins with a four-game road series at Miami, March 31-April 3, before the club hosts a six-game homestand at Coors Field, beginning with the club’s home-opener on Friday, April 4th vs. Arizona (2:10 p.m. MDT). The Rockies opening homestand is a six-game slate that also features the club’s first Interleague Series of the season, a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, April 7-9.

    The Rockies will play the standard 19 games against each of their four National League West division rivals along with an interleague schedule featuring all five American League Central teams, as well as the Texas Rangers from the AL West.

    The annual fireworks shows are scheduled for July 3 and 4, after games vs. Dodgers, and September 19, after the game vs. Arizona. The always entertaining Rockies-Cubs series at Coors Field will be played August 5-7, while the Rockies visit Chicago one week earlier for a four-game series at Wrigley Field, July 28-31. Additional series of note include a four-game series against the New York Mets at Coors Field, May 1-4, a four-game home series vs. Atlanta, June 9-12, and a three-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals, June 23-25, at Coors Field.
