    rockies logoRight-hander Jon Gray, the Rockies’ first-round Draft pick and third overall choice in 2013, made his debut Monday with two scoreless innings while giving up two singles and a walk with two strikeouts in the seventh and eighth against mostly Class AA and Single-A prospects. He is expected to start the season in AA Tulsa.

  • Rockies grab righty prospect in Rule 5 Draft

    KahnleThe Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has selected right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle with the eighth selection in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.  Kahnle, 24, spent 2013 at Trenton in the Double-A Eastern League in the Yankees organization.

    The 6-foot-1, 230-pounder went 1-3 with 15 saves, a 2.85 ERA (60.0 ip, 19 er), 45 walks and 74 strikeouts in 46 games for Trenton last season. Opponents hit just .182 against Kahnle in 2013.

    He was ranked the Yankees 20th-best prospect by MLB.com entering the 2013 season.

    The Latham, N.Y. native was selected by the Yankees in the fifth round of the 2010 first-year draft out of Lynn University. Kahnle struck out 260 batters in 198.0 innings pitched (11.82 SO/90 IP) over his three full minor league seasons, since 2011.

    The Rockies have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
