  • Rockies make it official with right-hander LaTroy Hawkins signing

    rockies logoThe Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher LaTroy Hawkins to a one-year Major League contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy. 

    Hawkins, 40, is making a return to the Rockies organization, as he was a member of the club’s 2007 National League Championship team. In 2007, Hawkins was 2-5 with a 3.42 ERA (55.1 ip, 21 er) in 62 games for the Rockies. The veteran spent the 2013 season with the New York Mets, going 3-2 with 13 saves and a 2.93 ERA (70.2 ip, 23 er), 10 walks and 55 strikeouts in 72 games. Hawkins will be looking to appear in a Major League game for the 20th-straight season in 2014. He has played for 10 teams in his Major League career, including Minnesota (1995-2003), the Chicago Cubs (2004-05), San Francisco (2005), Baltimore (2006), Colorado (2007), the New York Yankees (2008), Houston (2008-09), Milwaukee (2010-11), the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2012) and the Mets (2013).

    A native of Gary, Indiana, Hawkins owns a career record of 68-90 with 101 saves, a 4.37 ERA (1374.1 ip, 668 er), 436 walks and 917 strikeouts in 943 games, 98 starts. Hawkins ranks 20th on Major League Baseball’s all-time games pitched list (943). He leads all active Big League pitchers in games and holds (178).

    The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.

  • Rockies announce spring training schedule

    rockies logoThe Colorado Rockies announced their 33-game 2014 Cactus League schedule today, which features 16 home dates and 18 games total, played at the Rockies Spring Training site in Scottsdale, Ariz., Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. This the fourth year the Rockies have shared the facility with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

    Colorado opens as the away team against Arizona at Salt River Fields on Feb. 28. The Rockies first home game is Sunday, March 2 vs. Milwaukee.

    The Rockies conclude spring training with exhibition games against Seattle on March 28h at Peoria (night game) and March 29h at Salt River Fields (day game). The Rockies will then travel to Miami to open the 2014 regular season on Monday, March 31.

All Rockies home spring games begin at 1:10 p.m. local time, other than four games, which are: Arizona Diamondbacks (March 12, 7:10 p.m.), Seattle Mariners (March 14, 6:40 p.m.), Chicago Cubs (March 19, 6:40 p.m.) and Seattle Mariners (March 29, 12:10 p.m.). Away games will start at 1:05 p.m. local time, other than the three road night games, at Arizona Diamondbacks (March 3, 7:10 p.m.), at Oakland Athletics (March 13, 7:05 p.m.) and at Seattle Mariners (March 29, 12:10 p.m.).

    General admission lawn seating that holds 4,000 people is $9 and tickets for the 7,000 reserved seats in the seating bowl range from $19-$28.

    Season ticket plans for the Rockies’ 16 home games at Salt River Fields and all 31 Cactus League games at Salt River Fields featuring the D-backs and Rockies will go on sale to the public beginning Dec. 19.

  • Sky Sox announce 2014 schedule

    t551_main_logoThe Colorado Springs Sky Sox released their 2014 regular season schedule and game times after a record-setting 2013 season with 5,181 fans per game. Season ticket packages are on sale now and start at $60.

    The 2014 season will feature 18 fantastic fireworks shows, including the Independence Day show on July 3d and the fifth annual Skyfest Spectacular on Saturday, Aug. 23. Also returning for 2014 will be 50¢ hot dogs on 11 Sundays, nine Kids Eat Free Mondays, eight $2.00 Tuesdays, and 10 $3 Microbrew Thursdays.

    The Sky Sox’ home season kicks off with an eight-game home stand with the Round Rock Express (Affiliate of the Texas Rangers) and the Oklahoma City RedHawks (Houston Astros). The 2014 home opener will be at 6:35 p.m. on Friday, April 11 against the Express.

  • Michael Cuddyer wins Silver Slugger award

    rockies logoColorado Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer was named a 2013 National League Silver Slugger Award winner, honoring the best offensive players at each position.

    Cuddyer, 34, won his first career batting title by leading the National League with a .331 mark in what was his second season in Colorado. He finished with a .311 road average to tie for the sixth best mark in the National League.

    Cuddyer was named to his second career All-Star team in 2013 and finished the season with a batting line of: .331 average, 162 hits, 31 doubles, 3 triples, 20 home runs, 84 RBI, 74 runs, .389 on-base percentage, .530 slugging percentage.

    The Norfolk, Va. native set career highs in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS (.919) this season.
