Westsider Tina Johnson has been riding scooters since 1998.
On Friday morning, she pulled up in the parking lot of a retail store on a shopping trip.
She rides around the neighborhood on her scooter, does some local shopping and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
She bought her latest scooter, a Taotao, for $550 used six months ago.
Johnson is proud of the mileage she gets.
“It gets 110 miles a gallon,” she said. “And it takes one gallon to fill it, from empty to full.”
She let me sit on the scooter. And before I knew it, I was smiling. I wanted to start it up. Go somewhere.
But it was her scooter.
So I reluctantly climbed back into my truck. It gets 24 miles to the gallon.
