Red Leg Brewing Co. to open July 4 in the Springs

Published: June 28, 2013, 9:54 pm, by Scott Rappold

Colorado Springs’ newest brewery will open its doors on July 4, the first brewery to cater specifically to the service members and veterans in Colorado Springs.

Red Leg Brewing Co., named for the red pants worn by artillery soldiers during the Civil War, has the mission of “continuing to serve those who serve.”

Located at 4630 Forge Road, they will have a system capable of producing 150 gallons of beer a day.

That’s it. I wish I could tell you more about them, but they have declined my interview requests until they were open and able to pour some samples.

Check out their website here.

On an interesting side note, “Red Leg” is also used to refer to poor whites who live on the islands of Barbados, St. Vincent and Grenada, whose ancestors were shipped there from the U.K. by the ever-tolerant Oliver Cromwell.

“Red Leg” was also used to describe guerrillas who fought in the war between abolitionists and pro-slavery irregulars in Kansas in the years leading up to the Civil War.
