Where do millionaires hang out?
In first class, of course.
When did Aqib Talib learn DeMarcus Ware would be joining him in Denver?
“I was on first class on my flight. I looked and there’s Demarcus Ware,” Talib, the former Patriots corner, said today at Dove Valley. “That’s when it hit me.”
The Don Corleone of NFL free agency, John Elway strikes a hard bargain. When he didn’t like the financials thrown around by Jared Allen and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, he moved hard on Talib and Ware. Both officially became members of the Broncos today.
“I guess Mr. Elway decided to better his team on defense this year,” Talib said. “The offense looks pretty good.”
Talib signing with the Broncos was a surprise. To Broncos fans. To Broncos media. To the NFL.
To Talib himself, even.
“It was definitely a surprise,” said Talib, who said he also entertained overtures from the Saints, Redskins, Patriots and Niners.
Also a surprise: seeing DeMarcus Ware on his flight from Dallas to Denver. Talib said he had just tuned up his Beats headphones, preparing for an early morning nap, when he noticed the Cowboys star in another aisle. Talib chose to wait until after the flight to make Ware’s acquaintance.
“I was in the first seat; he was in Row 2,” Talib said.
“He kinda waited for me at the end of the tunnel.”
