Broncos: Should Denver make a push for Darrelle Revis?

In 2012, John Elway and the Broncos signed the biggest name in the free-agent pool, Peyton Manning.

In 2013, Elway and the Broncos signed arguably the biggest name in the wide receiver free-agent pool, Wes Welker.

In 2014, it appears the biggest name in free agency could be Darrelle Revis, set to be released by the Bucs on Wednesday if they don’t find a trade partner, according to Ian Rapoport.

Will the Broncos make a push for the star cornerback? Elway’s limited history in the front office suggests he goes big in free agency. Revis certainly would be going big.

This would be a statement the Broncos recognize the Manning window is closing, and they are going all in. One week after releasing the elite cornerback of a generation, Champ Bailey, the Broncos would be signing another. Revis remains the premier cornerback in the NFL. He’s the kind of big, physical, dominant — yeah, almost perfect — corner the Seahawks used to beat up the Broncos in the Super Bowl.

Should the Broncos spend the $10 million-plus on a one- or two-year deal with Revis?

Maybe the better question is, Why not?

If they don’t, look for another contender, such as the Dark Lord’s Patriots, to make that move.
