Broncos to the Super Bowl: When coasts collide

Published: January 20, 2014, 1:10 am, by Paul Klee

The Broncos have played at MetLife Stadium once before, back on Sept. 15 (left). Also, for it’s worth, the Broncos played at Seattle back in the preseason (right). Knew I took those photos for some reason.

I fished for salmon in Seattle. My cabbie got a flat tire in New Jersey. I was cool with both.

Three things that jumped to mind as the Broncos clinched a berth in Super Bowl XLVIII:

—Mile High felt like the old Mile High today. It shook. In the fourth quarter, there were ripples in my plastic cup of water. Sports Authority field hosted a party and the AFC championship game broke out.

—Super Bowl matchup to watch: Richard Sherman, the mouth, vs. Demaryius Thomas, the modest.

—Early Super Bowl prediction: Broncos by two touchdowns.

The line in Las Vegas opened with the Seahawks as the favorites. OK.

Only two things I don’t argue with — my sweet mother and Las Vegas. Both are usually right. But I struggle to envision a second-year quarterback beating Peyton Manning in a Super Bowl. Right now, two weeks from the 4:20 p.m. kickoff (Colorado time) I like Manning and the Broncos by double digits.
