It’s coming. Sooner or later, it’s coming, again.
Check out the Broncos’ next four games: at San Diego, vs. Kansas City, at New England, at Kansas City.
Combined record: 29-6.
As a reference point, the Chiefs’ nine opponents thus far have 27 wins. Total.
So this is why, at Dove Valley this morning, Matt Prater is shown above (above left) . Here’s a guess the kicker, whose 28-yard field goal beat the Cowboys in Week 5, will be called upon again to win a game in this stretch. The Broncos face a fierce challenge in this four-game gantlet.
One of the games, at the least, probably becomes a last-minute affair. That also puts into focus interim coach Jack Del Rio, who takes over the big decisions from John Fox: the 4th-and-1 calls, tossing the challenge flag, etc.
“I’ll do those types of things,” Del Rio said Wednesday. “I’ll do the head coaching duties.”
Del Rio spent about 10 minutes prior to practice today chatting with Pat Bowlen (above right). The Broncos owner was down on the sideline taking in the practice session.
So stretch out, Matt Prater. And rest up, Broncos. This figures to be the toughest four weeks of their regular season.
