Colorado Springs middle schooler tells peers she’s bald

Kudos to Colorado Springs middle school student Katarina Lucardie.

Lucardie, an 11-year-old student at Skyview Middle School in Falcon School District 49, was born with alopecia areata, an autoimmune skin disease, according to CNN IReport, who recently profiled Lucardie. The disease results in hair loss.

Lucardie wanted to tell her story to her classmates. The young girl went bald in fourth grade and has worn a wig since. She made a video to document her story.

It all started after Katarina wrote a letter to her school counselor: “I have a disease and it makes me lose my hair,” she wrote.

Wow. I remember my middle school days and it wasn’t very kind. Things change, still, Lucardie is a brave girl and deserves high praise.

Watch the video, read her story and tell us what you think.
