Colorado pastor: Girl Scout cookies promote “abortions, lesbianism”

Raise your hand if you think Girl Scout cookies are delicious. Or at the very least are for a good cause.

Ok, now raise your hand if you think the Girl Scout Organization promotes “lesbianism and abortions.” Apparently a Colorado pastor said just that.

Kevin Swanson, a preacher at the Reformation Church OPC in Castle Rock, recently told his listeners on his podcast to stay away from those diabolical cookies.

“Please, I beg you, do not buy Girl Scout cookies,” he said, according to an article on KDVR published Tuesday. “I mean, I don’t want to support lesbianism. I don’t want to support Planned Parenthood and I don’t want to support abortion. And if that be the case, I’m not buying Girl Scout cookies. I don’t want to promote a wicked organization.”

Crystal Slater, who works with a scout troop in Oklahoma City, told a local TV station that the scout program is “about teaching girls financial literacy skills.”

“They go on to be CEOs of corporations,” she said. “They go on to the military and serve their country. Those are the things girl scouting is about.”

Do you think the pastor went too far? Or is it a case of free speech?
