Who doesn’t like a good story of danger on a 14er?
A man from California named Patrick Renworth, 55, tells The Rocky Mountain Collegian that he climbed all Colorado’s 54 peaks in 1985. Renworth and a friend hiked from Mexico to Canada and passed through Colorado.
While in Colorado, Renworth and his friend climbed all the 14ers in a span of four months, starting with Pikes Peak and ending with Longs Peak. The two didn’t have much trouble and used a rope only once between the North and South Maroon Bells.
“We literally hiked – we didn’t hitch-hike – we walked between all the peaks,” Renworth told the Collegian.
Two weeks before his hike to Canada, while training, danger found Renworth. He fell 100 feet from a California 14er. Not long after, he went to an emergency room to get checked out and the doctor told him that a man in another room fell off a ladder and was in worse shape.
