Student from Malaysia joins ranks at Air Force Academy

One student who will soon be attending the Air Force Academy will be half a world away from home.

A story in the New Straits Times names Santos J. Jayagopal from Malaysia who was selected to attend the academy. The scholarships aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. Two other students will be at West Point and the Naval Academy.

According to the New Straits Times, it is not the first time that a student from Malaysia has attended the Air Force Academy. However, there hasn’t been one attending the campus for the past 19 years.

According to a statement from the US embassy, 20 Malaysians have graduated from various U.S. service academies since 1991.

The students are expected to use new skills and knowledge gained through the four-year programs to strengthen Malaysia.
