For one month, I have lived against the mountains. I am caught in the skies. Photo by Julia Moss, The Gazette

This is all new to me. Most of my life’s summers were spent toes dipped in rivers, sipping lemonade on my grandmother’s back porch.┬áNorthern Alabama’s rolling hills were all that marked my horizons.

The clouds seem closer, angrier than any I have experienced, yet they roll in around 4 o’clock every day as if they were performing a┬ádinner show.

To the east, there is nothing to stop the light. It wraps horses, tumbleweed and the families that control them in its warmth. SEMLA COLORADO

What an adventure this is.
