Exelis Inc. said Tuesday that it has selected Vectrus as the name for the spinoff of its Colorado Springs-based Mission Systems division when it becomes a separate publicly traded company this summer.

Vectrus comes from a blending of the words vector and trust, Exelis said in a press release Tuesday announcing the new name. “Vector represents strong forward direction, while trust represents the essence of the new company’s commitment to its customers,” Exelis said in the release.

The Mission Systems division had revenue of $1.5 billion in 2013 and employs 7,000 people in more than 100 locations in 18 countries, according to filing made by Exelis last month about the spinoff.
