Century Casinos Inc. said Thursday it has begun construction on the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino near Calgary in Canada.
The Colorado Springs-based gaming company plans to complete the $23 million project by year’s end. The project includes a 0.7-mile track, 550 slot machines, a bar, lounge, restaurant and off-track betting area. Century is developing the project with United Horseman of Alberta.
Century also announced late last month that it signed an agreement with Nova Star Cruises Ltd. to operate casinos aboard a ferry service between Portland, Maine, and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, that will be able to carry 1,215 passengers and 336 vehicles on the 10-hour trip beginning May 1. Under the agreement, which expires October 2020, Century will equip and operate the casino with 70 slot machines and table games.
Century owns or manages casinos in Cripple Creek, Central City, Calgary, Edmonton, Aruba, Poland and aboard 12 cruise ships.
