carsonFort Carson was lauded recently for leading the nation in clean energy use, cracking the EPA’s top 100 list for green power use and ranking number four in the federal government.

“Fort Carson is using nearly 82 million kilowatt-hours of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 39 percent of the organization’s electricity use,” Fort Carson said in a news release “As part of efforts to switch away from traditional sources of electricity generation and support cleaner renewable energy alternatives, Fort Carson is buying a utility green power product from Colorado Springs Utilities. In addition, the installation is generating green power from on-site solar energy systems.”

This year, Fort Carson is entering into a pilot program for electricity generated from wood biomass.

“Additionally, Fort Carson will contribute 10 to 15 percent of the wood needed to generate this sustainable energy and help with the installation’s net zero waste goal efforts,” Fort Carson said.
