Anne Zou, an incoming senior at Air Academy High School in Academy School District 20, has donated over 1,000 books to Centennial Elementary School in Harrison School District 2.

Zou heard about the Koats 4 Kids campaign at Centennial earlier in the year and decided to do some research. She discovered that many students receive free lunches and decided to donate
books to the students. She was pleasantly surprised when she learned that Centennial has some of the highest reading scores in the Colorado Springs region.

She said her hopes are to help students realize that reading is amazing and can be just as entertaining as watching movies or playing video games.

“The reason I have such awful eyesight is because I snuck books into my room and read (when I was a kid). Reading was such a huge part of my life,” Zou said.

Zou plans to apply to several colleges, including Brown University, Boston and Columbia . She is continually looking for donations and other ways to give more books to local schools.
