The County Sheriffs of Colorado will award a $500 scholarship to an El Paso County student this spring.

Any legal permanent resident of El Paso County enrolled in, or applying to, a vocational training program or institution of higher learning in Colorado as a full- or part-time student is eligible to apply.  There are no restrictions as to the course of study or training to be pursued, and no restrictions are placed on applications by reason of race, creed, age, sex or national origin.

CSOC established the scholarship program in 1978 to provide $500 individual scholarships to students across Colorado.

“I am proud to be a part of this long tradition established by CSOC,” Sheriff Terry Maketa said in a statement.  “Further education and training is important, and this is a program which demonstrates the value we place on helping students achieve some of their educational goals.”

Those eligible to apply can download the application by visiting the CSOC web site at www.csoc.org.  Completed applications are due Feb. 28 to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, attention Cheryl Sundheim, 27 E. Vermijo Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
