UCCS Alliance gets grant to create innovative ways to teach geography

The Colorado Geographic Alliance at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs  has received a  planning grant of $50,000 from the National Geographic Education Foundation.

The money will be used  to support a collaborative program to  create innovative ways to  teach and learn geography.

Steve Jennings, associate professor, Department of Geography and Environmental Studies,   and a coordinator of the Colorado Geographic Alliance, said, that  “working with other geographic alliances and their teacher leaders strengthens efforts to improve geography education in Colorado and across the nation.”

The alliance and  others in  in Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon, will  develop a workshop model for teachers.

The Network of Alliances is a grassroots organization dedicated to supporting geographic education. Each alliance is a partnership between university faculty and K-12 educators . foundation.
