Workers outside The Perk Downtown said Tuesday it could take another four to six weeks before the coffee shop reopens.

The shop at 14 S. Tejon St. has been closed since Jan. 24 when a fire destroyed coffee machines and other equipment. While the fire that occurred around 5:45 a.m. that day did little structural damage, smoke has forced owners to replace some ceiling tiles, clean walls and machinery and other items.

On Tuesday, the shop still smelled of smoke as workers inside used mitigation equipment in an effort to remove the last of the “smoke particles.”
