El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa shared a Denver Post story on his Facebook page Tuesday about two more counties in northern Colorado placing a secession question on the fall ballot.

Maketa said he has been following efforts in northern Colorado to create a 51st state.

“The Governor and the Colorado Sen Dems should be proud of themselves for creating such divisiveness among Colorado citizens,” Maketa said, referring to Gov. John Hickenlooper and Senate Democrats.

“Interestingly, they are always claiming they are doing what’s best for Coloradans, yet like with the anti-gun bills, they never asked nor did they seek input,” he said.

Hickenlooper “should be proud of this legacy and example of failed leadership and unity,” Maketa wrote.

“It was the Governor that said gun control was an urban vs rural issue. He was quick to sign bills that disenfranchised many outside and even inside the Denver metro area. If you vote in this upcoming election, make your vote count!” he wrote.
