kara nicholsA tip in the disappearance of a 19-year-old aspiring model from Colorado Springs didn’t pan out.

On March 8, the sheriff’s office received a tip about a “possible previous sighting” of Kara Nichols and an unknown man in the Fillmore Street area of the city, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jeff Kramer said in a news release.

“Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office spoke with the tipster and immediately acted upon the information by canvassing numerous businesses along the Fillmore Street corridor, conducting interviews, and collecting and reviewing surveillance footage from the area,” the release states.

Investigators tracked down the man spotted by the tipster with the woman believed to be Nichols. The man lives in Wellington, Colo., the release states.

“Investigators spoke in person with the male in Wellington and determined the female he was previously seen with in the Fillmore Street area was not Kara, but rather his current girlfriend.  The specific observations made by the tipster of the male and female’s actions during the sighting were corroborated during the interview,” the release states.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation into Nichols’ whereabouts remains active. Nichols was last seen Oct. 9.

Investigators are confident someone knows specific details about Kara’s disappearance that has not yet come forward,” the release states.
