Udall leaning towards supporting ban on “military-grade” firearms

Published: January 14, 2013, 11:21 pm, by Megan Schrader

In a phone interview Monday afternoon with The Gazette, Colorado Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Udall said that “military-grade” firearms — often referred to as assault weapons — should be part of a “multi-faceted approach” to gun control legislation.

“I’m not sure that military-grade weapons should be on our streets,” said Udall, but he stopped short of supporting a ban, which many Democrats across the country are clamoring for.

Udall said he wants to strike a balance between public safety and Second Amendment rights for sportsmen and self-defense.

“I’d like to believe that a multi-faceted approach that would include a ban on assault weapons could be crafted that works for our sportsmen, preserves our heritage and can and will save lives,” Udall said. “The more I hear from military personnel, law enforcement and other experts, increasingly people are saying, when you put that kind of firepower in a school or theater or mall… we’re going to have tens of casualties, and it just seems like there’s more we can do to make that less likely to happen.”

Udall made his comments on the eve of a presentation by Vice President Joe Biden, who has been working on Capitol Hill with members of Congress to put together a new package of gun control laws. The package is expected to include a ban on assault weapons, high-capacity gun magazines, and expanded background checks.

Washington Republicans have said any assault weapons ban won’t have enough bipartisan support to pass.

Time for Udall to be replaced, apparently he forgot the oath he took to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Actually Udall has invented a new term, “military grade firearms”. I guess Udall would approve of a ban on all firearms as just about every firearm in existence evolved from military innovation from muzzle loaders to modern arms. Maybe Udall has mistaken military grade explosives for firearms. Politicians will try anything to fool the public.

  4. Why is anyone surprised that Udall is a treasonous moron?

  5. Tim, what “action” can you take except to vote against Udall? Your poor, meager ‘powers’ are limited…

Rightswatcher, we had a ban on assault weapons from 1994 to 2004, and it did NOT violate the Constitution.

Don, you REALLY should look up the definition of treason. It’s obvious you don’t know it.

Obama does not intend to take your guns away, but in the case of the three of you, it just might be a good idea. Zealots should not have guns, nor should those without the educational background to understand the Constitution.

  6. Giving aid and comfort to the enemy, mindless demo-drone.

And that counts for enemies foreign AND domestic.

  7. And as for your little slightly-veiled threat to take away any guns I might have….molon labe. If you have the testicular fortitude…….

  8. Don, I said it might be a good idea, and YOU turned in into a challenge. Why not put your testosterone to good use? You can figure it out…

  9. It’s easy enough to figure out that all you’re doing is trolling…….which is what petty little tyrant wannabes do these days. Thing is that they’re too stupid to figure out that the Alinsky rules won’t work at the point of time that enough people don’t buy the lies and name calling anymore. Welcome to the new world of the renaissance of the American Republic. Sorry it’s so uncomfortable for the politically self-deluded.

  10. New gun laws will go into effect, and you can do nothing about it. Sorry, Mr. Machismo. :)

  11. And they will be disobeyed and resisted by those who love freedom. Sorry, Mr. Tyrant-Wannabe.

Politicians for the most part pay lip service to their oath and to the Constitution. Bob, if I may ask what are your objections to civilian ownership of firearms and other weapons?

As for blind obedience to illegal laws..is that not the Nuremberg defense? ” Zealots should not have guns, nor should those without the educational background to understand the Constitution.”

the 1st part that you wrote, Zealots should not have guns. Who do you consider to be zealous ..those that disagree with your viewpoints? How do you intend to prevent them from possessing guns?

2nd part, you speak of educational background needed in order to understand the Constitution..please elaborate, unless this has become an insult festival.

Gun laws are only obeyed by those who either do not have guns, or the temporary law abiding ..Murder is against the law , we still have murderers …Who will enforce the laws written and how will they be effected?

Bob, looks as if the NRA kicked Obama’s butt. Obama found he does not have the power he tinks he has, just a minor thing called the Constitution and the US Supreme Court. that denutted Obama.

  14. Just gotta’ love how Obama’s lying spokesman complains about the NRA ad, because it talks about HIS children, who he declares shouldn’t be part of any kind of political discussion, but then Obama surrounds himself with OTHER PEOPLE’S children to vainly try to justify his treasonous, illegal executive orders and spending even more money that we don’t have to spend.

Just goes to prove, once again, that anyone with the democrat label these days is nothing more than a lying hypocritical jerk.

  15. “Next came gun registration. People were getting injured by guns. Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law-abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long afterwards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.

“No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away. We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.

“Totalitarianism didn’t come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria. Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath. Instead, we had creeping gradualism. Now, our only weapons were broom handles. The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.”

“This is my eyewitness account. “It’s true. Those of us who sailed past the Statue of Liberty came to a country of unbelievable freedom and opportunity. “America is truly is the greatest country in the world. “Don’t let freedom slip away.

“After America, there is no place to go.”

Hi this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
