Three players with area connections were selected in recent junior hockey league drafts.

Coronado High School graduate and Colorado Rampage U18 forward Jacob Gerson was selected 126th overall (sixth round) by the Kenai River (Alaska) Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League on Tuesday.

Colorado College commit A.J. Vanderbeck, pictured, was selected 41st overall (third round) by Des Moines of the U.S. Hockey League last month. The Lewis-Palmer High School student is the first Rampage U16 player to commit to the Tigers.

Monument’s Keegan Mantaro of the Colorado Thunderbirds was selected 194th overall by the USHL’s Dubuque Saints.

Being drafted means a berth in the team’s summer training camp and a chance to make the roster. I will do a later post on tender contracts.

Several with Colorado ties — please email me at joe.paisley@gazette.com if I missed anyone with a Colorado Springs connection — were also selected in one or both drafts as listed below:.
