bigger-NCHC-logo-300x300The NCHC tied for second among the six NCAA conferences with its three entrants in the NCAA field, tying with the ECAC. Hockey East led all leagues with five teams in the National Tournament. By putting 37.5 percent of its teams in the Tournament, the NCHC was second behind only Hockey East, which put 45.5 percent (5/11) of its teams in the field.

Two NCHC teams (Denver and SCSU) face Hockey East foes in the first round. The NCHC went just 5-10-5 against Hockey East foes during the season, but DU was 3-0-0 with a sweep of Merrimack and a win over UMass. SCSU did not face any HEA foes during the year. 

The NCHC was 9-7-1 against the Big Ten during the season, but UND did not face any Big Ten teams. Against Wisconsin, the NCHC went 1-3-0 as Miami split and Colorado College was swept by UW.

North Dakota is making its 12th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the longest active streak in the NCAA. Denver boasts the second-longest active streak in the NCAA making its seventh straight appearance, after Miami saw its eight-year streak snapped this season.

St. Cloud State is making its second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and is one of three Frozen Four teams from last year to qualify for this year’s national championship.
