Slavin reaps double honors from NCHC

Slavin2013-14Colorado College freshman defenseman Jaccob Slavin, who heads into this week’s best-of-three playoff series at North Dakota as the Tigers’ second leading scorer by a single point, is the only freshman to earn All-NCHC recognition  as both a rookie and as a defenseman.

“It is a huge honor,” Slavin said. “It is satisfying to see your hard work pay off. But I could not have accomplished it without God. All glory goes to him.”

He was named to the league’s all-rookie and to the second team for his play this season, which included three league weekly honors including defenseman honors twice.

He is joined on the all-rookie team by forwards Jake Guentzel of Nebraska-Omaha; Alex Iafallo of Minnesota-Duluth; and Trevor Moore of Denver, along with North Dakota defenseman Paul LaDue and St. Cloud State goaltender Charlie Lindgren.

Slavin averaged nearly a point a game (.95) in conference play, second only to Guentzel’s 1.12.  The Erie, Colo. native led all NCHC defenseman in points per game (.76) with 22 in 29 games. He played for Team USA at the 2014 junior world championships earlier this season.
