AFA’s Truehl garners rookie award

AFAlogo2012Air Force freshman goalie Chris Truehl of Stoughton, Wis. was named as the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month for February. He went 3-1 during the month including recording his third career shutout.

Truehl is a three-time AHA Rookie of the Week and earned the first monthly honor of his career.

Air Force (20-12-4) is the No. 3 seed in the AHA Tournament and will host a quarterfinal series against an opponent to be determined on Friday-Saturday, March 14-15, and Sunday, March 16, if necessary, at Cadet Ice Arena.

Here are the league notes: Led Air Force to three wins in four starts during the month of February … All three of his wins came over teams that finished in top four in the league … Made 21 saves in the win over UConn on Feb. 1 … Led the Falcons to a sweep of first-place Mercyhurst … Named the AHA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 10 following the sweep … Made 34 saves, the second most of his career, in the 5-3 win over the Lakers on Feb. 7 … In Game 2 of the Mercyhurst series, stopped all 24 shots he saved as he blanked the top scoring offense in the conference … The shutout was the third of his career.
