OMAHA — Denver snapped a three-game winless streak to avoid the season sweep by the Mavericks.
And in what is typical in the NCHC, the win moved DU up from sixth into fourth place headed into this week’s battle for the Gold Pan against seventh-place Colorado College.
Freshman goalie Evan Cowley made 33 saves in his second start. UNO dropped into third place.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Sophomore Jonny Brodzinski scored with 1:49 left to lead the Huskies to the season-series sweep. The win kept SCSU atop the NCHC by three points.
“It’s just a great win for us,” Huskies coach Bob Motzko told the St. Cloud Times. “The building was electric. It was the best crowd of the year and we needed to get the roof off the building (with noise) and treat our fans to that game.”
No. 17 North Dakota 9, Miami 2
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota set a new NCHC record by pumping in nine goals against a Miami team that has surprisingly struggled on defense all season.
The weekend sweep put UND in sole possession of second place in the league.
Rocco Grimaldi recorded four points and Nick Mattson three.
The score could have been worse. UND had two goals disallowed in the first eight minutes of the game, both by a resurgent Mark MacMillan.
North Dakota goalie Zane Gothberg returned from injury to make 27 saves, 14 in the third period. It was Miami’s fourth-straight loss since garnering a road split at CC.
