Former CC captain Whiteside passes away

Former Tiger Cy Whiteside of Woodland Park passed away at his home on Jan. 7 at age 81.
Whiteside’s career including serving as CC team captain for the 1958-59 season and playing professional hockey in Scotland and for the International Hockey League’s Minneapolis, Des Moines, and Fort Wayne franchises.
He used his CC geology degree for a successful oil exploration career that enabled him to be part-owner of the Oklahoma City Stars while living in Oklahoma.
In his later years, he was a golfing regular at the Country Club of Colorado.
He is survived by Menke-Anne “Mickey”, his wife of 51 years, four children and three brothers.
Vigil and Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24. A celebration of life will be held at St Paul Church, 9 El Pomar Road, at 11 a.m. on Jan. 25.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in Cy’s name to Colorado College Hockey, Pauline Memorial Catholic School, St. Mary’s High School, or Prospect Hospice of Woodland Park.
