Howe road saveHere is a look back at the weekend in the NCHC by USCHO and a national take on performers and underperformers by an SCSU blogger.

Former Tiger goalie Joe Howe, pictured, left the CHL in December for the higher-level ECHL and is now 5-0-1 with one shutout (2.41 goals against, .920 saves)  for the Cincinnati Cyclones.

North Dakota hopes two tough exhibition games helped them shake off any rust headed into NCHC play at home against Colorado College this weekend. Rocco Grimaldi suffered a leg injury during the third period Saturday and did not return. It appears the injury was not serious.

Minnesota is the unanimous No. 1 in the USA Hockey weekly poll since former No. 2 Ferris State lost to Colgate in the Mariucci championship game. St. Cloud State moved up to No. 2 ahead of Ferris, Boston College and No. 5 Union.  Miami is now No. 13 while Denver picked up a few votes.

Minnesota is also No. 1 in the USCHO rankings, with St. Cloud State picking up eight out of a possible 50 first-place votes. Air Force picked up a few votes.
