Heil goldsAs expected, WCHA commissioner Bruce McLeod announced he will retire on June 30 at the end of his current contract.

“It has been my distinct honor to serve this wonderful organization as commissioner for the past 20 years and to be associated with the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for 49 years – since 1965,” McLeod said.  “The opportunity to get to know and to work alongside so many outstanding coaches and administrators, to become acquainted with so many marvelous student-athletes, and watch our sport grow and prosper has been a blessing. I will forever be a fan.”

He succeeded Otto Breitenbach (retirement) in 1994.

Tickets are now available for the North Star College Cup Jan. 24-25. All four games will be televised by FS North.

St. Cloud State beat writer Mick Hatten wrote a book about the Huskies run to the Frozen Four. It is available on Amazon.

Here are the midseason grades for the NCHC by USCHO. Those marks seem fair to me.

Here is a look at the Team USA prospects including Tigers rookie Jaccob Slavin. CC hopes maturation will help the Tigers rebound in the second half.

This is a week-old preview but it does highlight an interesting problem for some WCHA teams with other leagues not that interested in traveling to the UP of Michigan.
