Weekend recap: Huskies remain atop NCHC headed into holidays; CC in fifth place

SCSU Ryan FaragherTwo National Collegiate Hockey Conference teams completed a road sweep Saturday with all eight NCHC teams in conference action this weekend.

No. 2 St. Cloud State cruised past in-state rival and host No. 20 Minnesota-Duluth, 5-1, Saturday to complete one sweep, while North Dakota edged Western Michigan, 3-2, to complete its sweep.

No. 12 Miami earned a split with its 4-2 victory over Denver Saturday after losing at home Friday. In the final game of the night, No. 16 Nebraska Omaha and Colorado College played to a 3-3 overtime tie with the Mavericks collecting the extra point in the standings with a 2-1 shootout win in four rounds. SCSU remained in first place in the NCHC after Saturday’s results, two points ahead of UNO.

No. 20 Minnesota-Duluth hosts Western Michigan in the only league action next weekend, giving both a chance to move up the standings and overtake fifth-place Colorado College before the holiday break.
