Former Denver student David Carle was hired as a full-time assistant.
Carle joins the staff on Jan. 1 to replace departing associate coach Steve Miller, who is leaving to lead the expansion Madison franchise in the USHL as the head coach/general manager.
He has served as an assistant with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers. He was originally recruited to Denver as a player, but was forced to retire from hockey in July of 2008 after being diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – which is best known as a leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes and is a primary disease of the myocardium muscle of the heart.
His brother Matt became Denver’s first Hobey Baker Award winner in 2006.
Two North Dakota defensemen received weekly NCHC honors on Monday.
