Sunday roundup: North Dakota snaps 4-game NCHC losing streak

OMAHA, Neb. – North Dakota collected a much-needed 3-2 victory over Nebraska-Omaha Sunday evening at CenturyLink Center in conference action. The win earned UND (3-4-1, 2-4-0-0 NCHC) a weekend split after falling to the Mavericks (5-5-0, 3-1-0-0 NCHC), 4-2, Saturday, while UNO suffered its first league loss that snapped a three-game win streak.

Even with the loss, UNO remains in a first-place tie in the NCHC with No. 3 St. Cloud State, which split with No. 7 Miami this weekend.

North Dakota senior goaltender Clarke Saunders finished with 36 saves to pick up the win. UND hosts No. 20 Minnesota-Duluth, while Omaha hosts Michigan Nov. 15-16.

Western Michigan 2, Northern Michigan 2 OT

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan scored a pair of power-play goals to grab a 2-0 lead midway through the game, but Northern Michigan rallied and tied the contest in the closing minutes as the former CCHA rivals played to a 2-2 overtime tie Sunday night at Lawson Ice Arena in non-conference action. The Broncos (3-3-2, 2-0-0-0 NCHC) fell to the Wildcats (4-5-1, 2-2-0 WCHA) in Saturday’s series opener, 5-4.

Junior goaltender Frank Slubowski finished with 25 saves on 27 Wildcat shots. Western Michigan travels to Denver Nov. 15-16.
