Air Force senior Jason Torf and junior Cole Gunner both earned Atlantic Hockey Association weekly honors as the Falcons swept Penn State, 5-2 and 3-1, last weekend at the Cadet Ice Arena.
Torf, from Hermosa Beach, Calif., was named goalie of the week after he stopped 59-of-62 shots with a goals against average mark of 1.50 and .952 saves percentage for the nonconference series.
Torf made 26 saves, in the 5-2 win, on Friday. He then stopped 33 shots, in the 3-1 win, on Saturday. Torf moved into seventh place on the Air Force career saves list with 2,305 career saves.
Gunner recorded four points (two goals) to be named player of the week. The Richfield, Minn., native, tied his career high with three points on Friday (1-2-3). He also assisted on the game-winner.
Gunner then scored the game winner on Saturday. He also blocked three shots in the series and won 54-percent of his draws.
Air Force hosts defending AHA Tournament champion and NCAA qualifier Canisius on Friday at 7:05 p.m. MT. The Falcons then host regular-season champion, and NCAA qualifier Niagara on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. MT
Freshman defenseman Mitch Nylen of Sacred Heart was named as rookie of the week after recording his first goal and first assist as a Pioneer in a 3-1 win over Bentley. Sacred Heart’s 2-2 record matches last season’s win total (2-30-4).
