UND MacMillanHockey East took a 9-4 lead after the first weekend of the Hockey East/Big Ten Challenge. There are seven such games next weekend.

Here are more details on No. 1  Miami’s 6-2 win over No. 6 North Dakota.  Like the Minnesota-Duluth- CC series, Friday’s winner took it on the chin the next night. The parity of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference suggests sweeps will be very rare (unless injuries hit a  team or two very hard). Splits will be the norm and those shootout points could end up decisive in the league standings.

Alaska-Anchorage is 3-1 with wins over then-No. 10 Quinnipiac, which swept preseason No. 1 UMass-Lowell (1-3), and No. 12 Denver (2-2).

The WCHA’s Lake Superior State is off to a 4-0 start after a road sweep of No. 16 Union of the ECAC. The Lakers have scored 15 goals by 13 different players.
