In the pros: Marciano stays in Orlando; Sweatt heads to Brynäs in Sweden

orlandosolarbearslogoThe Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL announced they have signed former Tigers defenseman Joe Marciano for next season.

Marciano, 6-foot-2, 209 pounds, played the final three games with the Solar Bears last season after finishing a four-year career with Colorado College.

He was selected to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association all-academic team last season after posting two goals and six assists for eight points in 42 games. In 152 games with CC, Marciano picked up seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points and 167 penalty minutes.

The Alta Loma, Calif. native played two seasons with the U.S. National Development team from 2006-08, appearing in 82 games while scoring five goals and assisting on nine others.

brynas logoBill Sweatt signed a one-year deal with Brynäs IF of the SHL (formerly the Swedish Elite League).

He played 71 games for the AHL  Chicago Wolves in 2011-2012 (16g, 18a) before his first call-up to the Canucks in late 2011 for two games.

This past year he appeared in 66 games for the Wolves (15g, 21a) before one game with Vancouver.
