DC 3Hello from sunny, albeit chilly Houghton, Michigan this morning. The final weekend of the WCHA regular season waits for no one so here is the previews, news and updates from around the league:

CC senior Rylan Schwartz was named as one of the top three most attractive college free agents. Alexander Krushelnyski also garnered a mention from the CBC.

Here is a look at thee CC at Michigan Tech series from a more historical perspective. Whether you love the move to the NCHC by CC or not, some history comes to an end this weekend in Houghton.

Denver needs to sweep last-place Alaska-Anchorage to garner home ice in the playoffs.

Here is a video preview of the North Dakota at Minnesota State series by the Grand Forks Herald. The misdemeanor charges against Hobey Baker candidate Corban Knight were dropped earlier this week.

The WCHA did not like being overshadowed by the NCHC logo and postseason tournament announcement, so it announced its 2013-14 league schedule yesterday. Alabama-Huntsville will have a full 28-game league schedule.

Apparently the Big Ten could not stand the NCHC getting attention either. GopherSports released this image of the new league’s trophy.

Here is one more look at the WCHA race headed into this weekend.

The Minnesota at Bemidji State series promises to be a possible preview of next week’s playoffs. Don Lucia also looks back on the history of the WCHA.

Wisconsin is on a bit of an offensive roll headed into its home series against St. Cloud State. The Badgers’ road sweep of Nebraska-Omaha is why they are College Hockey News’ Team of the Week. Junior Mark Zengerle’s return from injury in December is another reason why. The Rochester, N.Y., native has a six-game point streak and leads all WCHA players in points (12) and plus/minus (+10) since Feb. 1. Here is a look at the MacNaughton Cup race.

Here is a feature on the sons of former North Dakota players now suiting up for Dean Blais. The Mavs close out the regular season at Minnesota-Duluth, which must sweep them and have CC lose twice this weekend to move up to eight place.
