Joe Howe was battered in goal, and No. 16 Colorado College allowed four unanswered scores Saturday in a 5-2 defeat against No. 4 Minnesota-Duluth at Amsoil Arena, as the Tigers lost for the fifth time in six games.

This ending is getting to be a joke and sorry to say, this lands on Owens. Look at the power play throughout the year, 9 goals scored against and Owens changes nothing. Yes CC scored a PP goal last night but guess what, Gabe and Boivin were not on the ice. Those 2 players have to take most of the blame for all the break-aways and goals which have been scored on CC’s power play because they are the 2 players standing on the blue line! Can’t one of the coach’s tell them to back each other up! This Power Play has not been working, change it!
CC were winning in the beginning of the season so what does Owens do, he changes the lines and he’s been changing them ever since but not back to when they were winning! Can someone please tell me why?
This team has talent, too bad there is no-one around to help them win!
Knowing that CC needs those points I don’t understand why Owens would put Howe in the net. He has not played well this year at all. They needed to stay with Thorimbert. Unless he was hurt. Owens needs to go back to coaching school. This is where these players need to be pushed and by the way it has gone for the past three weeks they need to be push hard. They are going to blow another year without a tournament bid so what is CC going to to do. I would say it is time for a new head coach. Again my 2 cents…..
I’m having to seriously reconsider the money spent on season tickets for a team that will forever perform at just above average regardless of the talent pool they have. It seems CC is very proud of how many “winning seasons” they have, meaning winning over 50% in a conference that has Alaska Anchorage, Bemidji , Mankato, and Michigan Tech. It would be time to cash it in if you can’t win >50% with those teams making up the bottom half. Once CC is in the NCHC, the fans had better get used to being permanent bottom dwellers fighting for last place with Western Michigan every year…. unless some serious strategic changes take place. Saying “we’re playing pretty well” while a season collapses isn’t going to fill the stands.
Coincidentally, the song on this is by Bob Dylan who is from Duluth!
I’m not going to give up my season tickets because a team that was supposed to win has taken a dive as of late. This year Owens has a built in scapegoat with the amount of injuries to key starters. I do place blame on the coaching staff (primarily Owens) for the collapses in recent years. His teams consistently fade in the second half. I agree that it’s time for Owens to move on. He’s reached his ceiling as a coach and th CC hockey program has gone as far as it ever will with him. Unfortunately he just signed an extension so unless he resigns we’re stuck with him.
I didn’t know Bob Dylan was from Duluth. He probably could have helped CC in goal this weekend!
There is no issues in goal. CC needs to stay with Thorimbert. Like I said last week and also any goalie can tell you if you miss a few games/week it will take a few games to get back 100%. Goalies will loose alittle off their timing and positioning on the ice. I will tell you that Howe is not the answer in the net. Howe is overrated. He had one good game last year in the tourney but he pulled that out of his you know what. I would rather see Lookwood in net than Howe. The other thing is that you can not blame the loss on the goalie. It is a team sport and before the goalie takes the heat for a loss you need to blame the players in front of him. Prime example is look at Boston Bruins. Thomas is not a very good goalie I would say alittle like Howe, but he has a great team in front of him and if you look at some of those great games that Thomas got praise for, his D was doing most of the work. That is what needs to start happening at CC. The team needs to step up and stop the excuses on why the are lossing. Owens needs to push them hard, and also keep the lines that are working together and stop changing everything around. It is very hard to watch this team year after year blow up the season in the second half. That blame needs to go to Owens and the rest of the coaching staff.
