Great game. Great statement by Air Force’s Falcons. Maybe the teams will meet again in the NCAA Tournament. That would be a hockey fan’s dream.

I thought this was a Tigers blog? AFA got lucky and will probably still get smashed by DU tomorrow. AFA will make it to the tournament because they are playing against the cupcakes of the world in AHA. CC will still find a way into the tourney and will likely not have to worry about AFA. I hope to only see them next October.
Good point Section207, The Gazette and especially Ramsey loves Air Force. Paisley would never have stooped so low. Air Force held on and it sucks to lose to them. This is still a CC “hockey” town and always will be, one win doesn’t change that. I’d much rather watch the talent level of CC versus Denver, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Nebraska Omaha than watch Air Force play Bentley, AIC, Mercyhurst and Robert Morris anyway. Come on Ramsey, get a clue. It’s one night.
I will say this – CC fans were way too nice to Air Force tonight – its one thing to respect the Air Force Academy, but come on lets cheer for the home team and make it tough on the visiting team. Why treat AF any different than Denver or Minnesota?
And Ramsey you got a little too much pleasure out of AF beating CC. What team in this town can actually win a National Championship this season – its CC, not AF. One night of joy for AF – enjoy it while you can. CC definitely took AF way too lightly for the first 2 periods. I’m disappointed, but this can still be a very special season for the Tigers when Jaden returns.
CC and DU play 4 times a season, every season. Winning ONE game hardly makes someone a “National Power”, so dramatic Ramsey. Nice to see Ramsey finally made an appearance to a game…to watch Air Force it looks like. Don’t call this a “CC Hockey Blog” unless its a CC Hockey Blog. Have fun covering Air Force play American International, Bentley, Sacred Heart, Niagara, Robert Morris….I’ll stick with the real National Power in town COLORADO COLLEGE. One game doesn’t change that!
A few things:
1. Thanks for the laughs, guys. I’m slanted toward Air Force? Please tell that to the athletic director, coaches and fans from Air Force. I get accused by them of being slanted toward Colorado College. AFA people talk all the time about how I’m too tough on Air Force.
2. Yes, this is a CC blog. That doesn’t mean the truth can’t be told about the Tigers here.
3. Dismiss Air Force’s hockey team all you want. Yes, the Falcons schedule is not as tough as CC’s schedule. That doesn’t mean this Air Force team isn’t a national power.
So let me say it again:
Two national powers reside in Colorado Springs. Air Force proved that last night.
That’s the truth, and the truth has this strange habit of sticking around. It doesn’t go anywhere. If the truth bothers you, that doesn’t mean it’s not the truth.
4. Ryan – This isn’t my first appearance at a CC game this season. I’ve covered well over 100 or so CC games in my nine seasons with the Gazette.
I can tell you why Ramsey likes the idea of AFA beating CC: AFA IS an underdog. They have undersized players who are recruited with no hope of playing beyond the AFA. So they don’t get the prime recruits. But they DO have excellent scholar athletes, who finish college in 4 years, can’t take classes in the summer, can never skip one class, have to go to mandatory meals twice a day, have to march to lunch 3 times a week, have military leadership positions, and have 3 out of 4 weekends a month eaten up by mandatory cadet activites–plus they manage to play NCAA hockey–pretty well. And the hockey team at USAFA has one of the highest if not the highest team GPA of the major teams at the Academy. You can dispute any of the above details, but the whole package is that AFA has hockey players who rise above a LOT to beat a team like CC. AFA doesn’t even really have much hope beating AHA teams full of Canadians–but they do. Easy to like AFA beating CC….
CC is a difficult school as well, I’m sure Ramsey would agree. CC is one of the top academic schools in the country and that includes the CC hockey players. Scott Owens can’t just sign any kid he wants, they have to be very smart. CC has an enrollment of 1,950 and beats/competes with the likes of North Dakota, Denver, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Boston College, Minnesota Duluth, etc. CONSISTENTLY week in and week out. Most of these schools with huge enrollments can bring in the top hockey talent even with a 2.0 GPA – CC kids are 4.0 students.
Air Force got the better of CC on ONE NIGHT. Enjoy it while you can. It was definitely an upset. The teams are not even and never will be rivals. CC Hockey should not lose to Air Force, just like Air Force basketball shouldn’t have lost to CC basketball. Last night sucked as a CC fan. I will say this CC fans were much more classy in its respect with AF than the reverse. CC fans didn’t even do the “you still suck” cheer, yet AF fans were doing cheers over the CC Give Blood Community Service Video. Classy AF Fans, classy…
This town will always be a CC Hockey Town – big time hockey every weekend, big time Arena and the huge majority of fans in this town. Enjoy your football AF.
Bad night for the Tigers (after Winter Break and without Jaden Schwartz).
Come March we’ll see CC battling for a National Championship. Air Force will be lucky to win the AHA Tourney Championship against very very very bad teams.
I’ll admit I’m in a bad mood after losing to Air Force, but in the big picture CC will prevail again. And we’ll see another 28 wins in the next 30 years for the Tigers…you can’t win them ALL
CC shouldn’t even play Air Force, they have everything to lose and nothing to gain. Losing 2 times in 30 years is too much sad to say. Air Force hockey is a joke, they are not a national power and never will be.
Even though I did 24 years in the Air Force I always have been and always will be a CC fan 100%. Heck I even spend thousands of dollars traveling to cheer and support the Tigers play on the road year after year. Already been to Omaha and Mankato, with another trip planned for Duluth this season. That aside, here is the point I would like to make. When it comes to Denver vs CC you always know both teams will be pumped full of emotion. When it comes to AF vs CC only one team will be pumped full of emotion and that is the lesser opponent Air Force. If CC expects to beat AF it too needs to play with more emotion than it did for the first two periods of the game last night. Go Tigers! And beat Union!
Well said Lee, but the question then is should CC even play AF?
CC gets fired up for WCHA games and Playoff time, they will NEVER get fired up to play AF. And on top of that CC is supposed to beat AF and has nothing to gain in playing the game. Should CC even play AF? Although 28-2 in the last 30 games is pretty nice over the years. Great thing about hockey is that if CC goes 3-0 against Union and Cornell the Tigers will be right back on track and with Jaden on the team, the sky’s the limit. All Air Force has is a regular season win, they can NEVER win a National Championship.
Regardless of his slant, Ramsey is doing a thousand times better than Joe Paisley’s replacement. I miss the regular updates, inciteful posts, and genuine regard for the serious fans who frequent this blog. The Gazette really botched that one….
Air Force “national power” my ass.
One win doesn’t make you a national power.
How did that DU game tonight work for the Falcons???
When Iowa State beat Oklahoma State in football, did the Cyclones become a “national power” – NO.
Air Force is 1-3 against real hockey schools this season. And that is typical year in and year out for AF hockey. If a CC head coach did that he’d be fired.
AF beating CC was simply a twice every 30 years win. That’s it. If you want to cover a true “national power” this season, you better stick with CC! And comparing Jaden Schwartz the Canadian Team Captain and 1st Round NHL draft pick to the injured AF goalie IS A JOKE!
