Finding out about a disaster in the Colorado Springs area is now a tweet away.
The Colorado Springs Office of Emergency Management and fire and police departments have enrolled in Twitter Alerts, an emergency notification feature delivered directly to subscriber phones, city officials report.
Residents who sign up will receive notifications on their phone — by SMS or text message. Twitter for iPhone (5.10 or higher) or Twitter for Android (4.1.6 or higher) users will also receive a push notification, which will be indicated with an orange bell.
