  • J.R. Martinez to speak at Mental Health Luncheon

    J.R. Martinez will be the keynote speaker at the 2013 Heroes of Mental Health Luncheon. The annual lunch is hosted by AspenPointe, an organization that provides solutions to local social issues, such as access to health care, unemployment and lack of education. Martinez won season 13 of ABC’s reality show “Dancing with the Stars,” and is known for his acting, motivational speaking and Army service as a combat veteran. The luncheon is in October.

  • TheatreWorks receives $10,000 grant

    This week TheatreWorks, one of the oldest companies in the city, received a $10,000 grant from The Shubert Foundation, a New York City-based organization dedicated to supporting performing arts in the United States. The grant goes to the company’s operating expenses, supplementing the company’s $1.5 million annual budget. The foundation awards grants based on the organization’s contribution to the field of professional theater.

    “It’s a wonderful endorsement of the trajectory we’ve been on in our development,” says Drew Martorella, executive director of TheatreWorks.

  • Marmalade at Smokebrush leaves Trestle Building, moves to Manitou

    Just got word that Marmalade at Smokebrush, a yoga studio, art gallery and live event space, in the Trestle Building at 219 W. Colorado Ave., will relocate to Manitou Springs this summer. They will rent space at the Business of Art Center. A date for relocation has not been announced.
