Brett Smith out for Wyoming

Published: October 13, 2012, 5:14 pm, by David Ramsey

Wyoming sports in formation just announced quarterback Brett Smith is out for Wyoming with an undisclosed injury.

Smith has completed 64 percent of his passes this season.

This is good news for Air Force’s secondary, which is allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete passes with 71 percent accuracy.

Same old, same old. Defense can’t stop anyone. Wyoming is converting almost at will on third down. An inexperienced QB is completing passes at his leisure.

AFA’s offense needs to score each time it has the ball as the team’s defense is providing no support to the offense by stopping Wyoming. A 99 yard TD drive and 65 yard TD drive by Wyo shows the porous nature of AFA’s defense. Yet another fumble by the AFA offense didn’t help matters.

If the Cowboys score any points on its opening drive in the second half this game is O-V-E-R.

    Great great win!
    Character!
We will take them anyway we can. Defense must have stepped up the 2nd half.
    Huge win for AF.

Great effort in the second half boys. It was ugly in the first half, but terrific show of determination in the second half. Nice run by Kale Pearson to get to the corner of the end zone. The running game controlled the clock late in the going.

Not the prettiest win, but a most important one. Go get ‘em next week at home against the Lobos!

We really needed one of these tough wins, especially on the road.

  6. Gritty win for Air Force. Wyoming should put the names back on the Jerseys. Honor? Coach Christiansen is an embarrassment. Dietz executed the play action superbly today. Hat’s off to the D in the 2nd half.

  7. Their coach is one rear end. He ought to be reprimanded by the MWC this week and should have been last week with their QB who had two unsportsmanlike penalties. What an embarrassment to their good school.

  8. What was Coach Christiansen beef at the end of the game? I could not figure what set him off. An assitant had to step in between the coaches.

Very good adjustments and coaching by DC et al at halftime. D players responded and won the game. How hurt is Getz’s ankle? See Wyoming newspapers for post game events. Wyo HC is losing his cool and his job. Sad.
Hope for 2013 in frosh QB. BTW, frosh QB #19 for Navy started and played great in Navy win. Calhoun said preseason Army of 2012 reminded him of winning/ bowling 1996 squad? Hello?
Army lost it’s fifth and will not be bowling.

Some raw data in advance of the AFA-New Mexico on Saturday in Falcon Stadium.

    Rushing offense
AFA ranks 2nd in nation at 363 yards per game.
NMex ranks 7th in nation at 280 yards per game.

    Passing offense
AFA ranks 118th in nation at 116.8 yards per game.
NMex ranks 120th [last] at 59 yards per game.

    Total offense
AFA ranks 23rd at 479 yards per game
NMex ranks 101st at 339 yards per game.

    Points per game
AFA ranks 38th at 33.3 points per game.
NMex ranks 57th at 29.4 points per game.

    Rush defense
AFA ranks 92nd allowing 190.8 yards per game.
NMex ranks 50th allowing 140.8 yards per game.

    Pass defense
AFA ranks 71st allowing 234 yards per game.
NMex ranks 105th allowing 279.8 yards per game.

    Total defense
AFA ranks 85th allowing 424.8 yards per game.
NMex ranks 82nd allowing 420.7 yards per game.

    Scoring defense
AFA ranks 74th allowing 27.6 points per game.
NMex ranks 79th allowing 28.2 points per game.

My $.02 ….both teams run the ball well. Neither of them is prolific throwing the pass. Both defenses are allowing almost identical yardage per game. Not much difference in scoring on offense in points per game or on defense, although AFA has a slight edge in both categories.

I hope the weather is better for this game than was the case last night in the second half in Laramie.

  11. East Coast…
    some good data…facts
    Glad we are at home…..
I am hoping that grind out victory will pay some dividends…these next few weeks…..
Would be nice to win the next three and become bowl eligible…
    with 3 remaining…..
Take them one at a time……
