With the school year winding down, Air Force cadets are taking the common approach to kicking off the summer, by getting in the Guinness Book of World Records for the biggest dodgeball game ever recorded.

“It’s going to be an unbelievable event,” athletic director Hans Mueh said.

At 5 p.m. today all of the cadets, about 4,000 of them, will be on opposite teams. Somehow Air Force got 1,200 dodgeballs for the event (I just assume Mueh picked them up at Target on his way to work), and they’ll apparently play until there is one left standing. The old record for largest dodgeball game was 2,012, set at the University of Alberta in February. Proving that Americans can be every bit as wacky as our neighbors to the north, the cadets should about double that record.
